Bike Policies
Welcome to Bike Lake Tahoe by Clearly Tahoe! We are committed to providing safe, scenic, and unforgettable biking experiences across the Lake Tahoe region.
These rental policies outline important guidelines for the safe use of our fleet, which includes traditional bicycles, electric cruiser bikes, and pedal-assist downhill mountain bikes (e-MTBs).
Please read all policies carefully before making a reservation or riding. For the purpose of defining details within these policies; participants who will be operating the bicycles will be referred to as “riders” and non-pedaling participants will be referred to as “passengers”.
Age and Eligibility
- All guests must be 4years of age and at least 30lbs to participate.
- Participants must be 12 years of age or older to operate any electric bikes (e-bikes), including:
- Turbo Levo Comp Alloy (Pedal-Assist E-MTB)
- Specialized Haul ST & LT (Electric Utility Bikes)
- Riders under 16 years of age must be actively supervised by a parent or legal guardian (18+).
- Participants under 18 years of age require a parent or legal guardian to complete and sign a liability waiver.
- All riders must be physically capable of operating a bicycle safely and are expected to understand and follow the rules of the road.
Safety Guidelines
- Helmets are mandatory for all riders.
- Closed-toe shoes are required.
- Additional protective gear is recommended for e-MTB riders.
- Follow all traffic laws and trail etiquette in California and Nevada:
- Ride on the right-hand side of paths and roads.
- Obey signage including speed limits and trail closures.
- Yield to pedestrians and slower cyclists.
- No use of phones or headphones while riding.
Reservation & Check-In
Reservations are encouraged and subject to availability.
- All rentals require a valid photo ID and credit card.
- A refundable deposit of $250 is held for Turbo Levo rentals.
- Minimum rental duration is 1 hour.
- All bikes must be returned by 6:00 PM.
Height & Weight Guidelines
Turbo Levo Comp Alloy (Pedal-Assist E-MTB):
- Small: 5’2″–5’8″ | Max weight: 250 lbs
- Medium: 5’6″–5’10” | Max weight: 265 lbs
- Large: 5’9″–6’2″ | Max weight: 275 lbs
- X-Large: 6’1″–6’6″ | Max weight: 285 lbs
Specialized Haul ST (Electric Utility):
- Fits riders 4’11″–6’4″ | Max weight: 300 lbs
- Child Passenger: 4–7 years old | Max seat weight: 60 lbs
Specialized Haul LT (with ‘school bus’ child seat):
- Rider: 5’4″–6’4″ | Max weight: 300 lbs
- Child Passenger: 4–7 years old | Max seat weight: 60 lbs
Outfitting and Use Agreement:
- Guests are responsible for selecting a properly fitting bike based on their height and weight. Staff will assist upon request.
Transport Guidelines
Bikes may only be transported in vehicles equipped for bicycles.
- Bikes must be transported using racks free of defects, properly installed, and rated for weight/style.
- Do not disassemble bikes or remove batteries during transport.
- Guests are responsible for any damage during transport, use, or storage.
- Clearly Tahoe cannot guarantee that locks will prevent theft. Guests assume full responsibility for lost/stolen equipment.
E-Bike Classifications & Trail Use
Most electric bikes in our fleet are Class 1 e-bikes, which are pedal-assist only (no throttle) and have a top assisted speed of 20 mph.
- Guests are responsible for understanding and complying with land-use regulations based on e-bike classifications.
- Riding is only allowed on authorized trails and public routes.

Roadside Assistance & Repairs
- Riders are expected to monitor their bike during use.
- Basic maintenance kits for chains and tires are available upon request.
- Clearly Tahoe offers roadside assistance within a limited region
- In-region repairs (flat tire, broken chain): $10.00 per service
- Outside assistance region: Guests are responsible for self-repair.
- Retrieval fee for bikes outside the assistance region: $100 + $10/mile.
Maintenance & Incidentals
- No attempts to repair electrical components or brakes are allowed.
- Do not remove batteries or disassemble any part of the bike.
Damage, Loss & Liability
- Riders are responsible for returning bikes in the condition issued.
- Charges may apply for:
- Damaged components
- Lost accessories (helmets, locks, etc.)
- Excessive cleaning
- Bikes returned after 6:00 PM may be subject to late fees.
- Lost or stolen bikes will incur the full replacement cost.
Acknowledgment
By reserving and using equipment from Bike Lake Tahoe by Clearly Tahoe, guests acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to abide by all the rules, safety guidelines, and responsibilities outlined in this policy. Failure to comply may result in suspension of rental privileges without refund.
