Entry to the Sand Harbor Nevada State Park
The Nevada State Park does an incredible job maintaining this beautiful section of shoreline and controlling public use to help preserve and protect the lake. Once inside the park, visitors can enjoy a variety of beaches, nature trails, picnic areas, recreational activities, and an on-site restaurant, visitor center and gift shop. Because this is such an popular destination, it can be difficult to access during the summer months (June-September). Below are a few tips for obtaining access to the Sand Harbor Nevada State Park.
1. Arrive Early
Many visitors to the Lake Tahoe area will begin waiting in line as early at 5:30am to enter the Sand Harbor Nevada State Park. To prevent congestion on Hwy 28, this is not our recommended option. Many guests who leave the tunnel creek cafe at 7:00am (when park gates open) will not have an issue obtaining entry before the park reaches capacity closure. Note: Holidays and weekends between July 15 and August 15 might be an exception to this. If you are looking to obtain entry to the park on these busy weekends, we might suggest waiting in line, biking in or using the East Shore Express Shuttle.
What to Bring;
– $15.00 Cash for Park Entry
Please Note: The Sand Harbor Nevada State Park does not permit walk-ins or drop-offs out side of the gate. Once the park reaches capacity, your only way into the park is by water, biking in on the east shore express trail ($2.00 per person) or the East Shore Express Shuttle.
2. Bike in on the East Shore Trail from Incline Village, NV
The Sand Harbor Nevada State Park does permit entry to the park during normal park hours on the East Shore Express Trail. This paved trail stretches from Tunnel Creek Cafe in Incline Village, NV and leads visitors along 3-miles of beautiful shoreline to the Sand Harbor State Park where the trail ends. The cost for entry to the park is $2.00 per person so don’t forget to bring cash, and water!
If you want to maximize your experience in Tahoe and get the most our of your time, we strongly suggest biking into the park on the East Shore Express Trail. If you make a reservation for a rental that begins at 9, 9:30 or 10:00am, you might have time to pick-up a bike at a local outfitter and cruise in on the scenic trail. This would reduce your time waiting in line to access the park and help you cut the line for rentals upon arrival. Guests who prefer an afternoon ride can still enjoy a walk-up rental on-site (weather permitting)
What to Bring;
– $2.00 Cash Per Person for Park Entry
– Water
Recommend Rental Options;
Vista Trail Bikes
Flume Trail Bikes
3. Take the East Shore Express Shuttle from Incline Village, NV
The East Shore Express Shuttle offers public transportation form Incline Village, NV into the Sand Harbor Nevada State Park. This shuttle usually runs daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day and brings visitors into the park from 10:00am until 3:00pm. Please Note: The shuttle does take guest out of the park until 6:30pm however, we do not recommend waiting until the last shuttle out because space is limited and the only other exit option would be a 3-mile walk back to Incline Village on the East Shore Express Trail.
The East Shore Express Shuttle Pick-Up location;
Corner of Southwood & Hwy. 28 (Old Elementary School)
771 Southwood Blvd., Incline Village, NV 89451
