At Peak to Paddle Coffee, we focus on the main character at any coffee shop: the coffee we use.
Having spent numerous years living in Puerto Rico, one of the only two coffee growing regions in the USA, we spent time enjoying the lush tropical environment that provides ideal conditions to grow specialty coffee. While personally touring coffee farms throughout the island, we met passionate and dedicated farmers, and we were able to focus on our goal of sourcing our coffee from properties and people that shared our values. This eventually led to partnering with Café Roig to provide our customers with not only a high-quality single origin specialty coffee, but also a coffee rich with history.
Café Roig, owned and operated by 4th generation coffee farmer Jose Luis Roig Franceschini, is a family business that has been producing top quality coffee in the mountains of Guayanilla, PR since 1876. Carrying a vast wealth of knowledge and a meticulously detailed-oriented work ethic, Jose Roig oversees the planting, roasting, and packaging of his beans, and ensures that every bag of coffee he produces meets his rigorous quality standards.
A sustainably shade-grown coffee, Café Roig is 100% arabica beans of the Catuaí, Frontón, and Limaní varieties grown at over 2,600 feet above sea level. It is ecologically processed, using a traditional wash method, dried in the sun, and then carefully roasted to a medium roast. The winner of multiple Golden Cup Awards in Puerto Rico, this coffee has been graded to have good body, low acidity, intense aroma, and notes of dark chocolate and caramel.
